Bylaws

Bylaws vary from one council to another; However, the main requirements of the bylaws in Hawke’s Bay affecting keeping bees are:

Number of hives per property in Residential Zone within most of Hawke’s Bay Urban Areas is limited to two.

In Residential Zones outside Hawke’s Bays Urban areas this number varies.

In some instances, consent may be required by the local council; in which case, Kiwi Bees will organise consent.

Site Requirements

It is important that all beehives be elevated or have an obstruction in front of them to ensure that the flight path of the bees is above 2.5m at the property boundary.

Water
It is advised that a water trough must be provided and maintained on the property.

Approval

All Kiwi Bees ‘Host a Hive’ site locations will be subject to site approval by one of our team.
